The need for "Common Prosperity"

文章 admin »

In 2020, the wealthiest 1% held 80.6% of the country's wealth, up from 20.9% two decades ago, according to a Credit Suisse report, compared with 32.1% in the United States. On the other hand, China's Gini coefficient (measuring income inequality that ranges from 0 to 1) has reached .47, compared with 0.41 in the US.

The Chinese leaders have said repeatedly that inequality above 0.4 is potentially destablishing.
Currently, China has about 400 million people living on annual incomes between 100,000 yuan and 500,000 yuan for a family of three. This cohort of middle-class consumers is expected to double by 2035. This "common prosperity" is to create an "olive-shaped" economic profile with fewer richer people at the top and far fewer richer people at the top and far fewer poor people at the bottom with a very large majority in the middle,

Re: The need for "Common Prosperity"

There is a need for an English Only Thread for those who cannot read Chinese. I shall use this thread to do so. The first subtopic is to use Pipe to deliver High Mountain Water and the Potential Energy of Water accurately to distant places. This post will be be edited as we learn more. Here I shall list the many advantages:

(1) Pipes can deliver water and the potential energy of water from a high mountain accurately to a distant place.

(2) The water at the distant place can theoretically rise to the same height as the water level at the high mountain. There is no need for humans to use pumps to add more energy.

(3) The water at the distant place, after risen to the great height, can drive turbines to generate electricity. After driving the turbine, the water will be at the low level and can flow like normal rivers to even lower levels and may rejoin the river at a lower elevation..

(4) For a normal river, for ease of estimation, we can assume 50% of the water flow is from a high mountain. The other 50% is from streams joining the river at lower levels. We can further assume that the height of the water level at the high mountain is 1,000 meters.

(5) If we expand this assumption worldwide, we can postulate that the Potential Energy of Water available to humans MgH is enormous. M = 50% of all river flow, g = 9.8 meters per sec per sec (gravitational constant) and H is 1,000 meters. This total amount is likely to be more than all the energy supplied by all existing power stations in the World!

(6) The water from the high mountain is likely to be clean. The generation of electricity by the Potential Energy of water will not pollute nor produce any carbon dioxide. We essentially solved both the drinking water problem and the reliance on fossil fuels at the same time.

(7) In case of China, Water from Himalayas can accurately flow into the deserts in North-West China. Deserts may get energy from solar, wind and now water! The delivered and used water can be stored in the reservoirs or lakes in the desert or used to replenish the underground water supply. Regreening will not harmfully drain the underground water of the desert as being criticized today..

(9) The Pipes can follow the terrain and may even climb mountains. Piped water can flow upwards! This allows accurate and relatively cheap delivery of water and potential energy of water to selected places.

(10) One good question raised was - can we achieve the same thing with successive dams across a river? The simple answer is that much of the Potential Energy of water would be used to provide speed (Kinetic Energy) of water and spreading out of the water. Further more, rivers cannot flow upwards. We cannot accurately deliver water and the potential energy of water to anywhere we selected!

The Power Point file in English at Google Drive. The file will be upgraded as needed.

Water Engineers may need to re-examine their design of dams, water ways and seriously consider using the Potential Energy of High Mountain Water.
